30th Street Station District’s $6.5B University City Development

The University City skyline has been noticeably evolving and will continue to be forever changed from the decades-long 30th Street Station District Plan for redevelopment east of Drexel University and Powelton Village. Amtrak, Drexel University, Brandywine Realty Trust, SEPTA, and PennDot have recently stated that the 175-acre site will include $2 billion in infrastructure funding and $4.5 billion in private investment development for a total of $6.5 billion.

The infrastructure budget will cover the transit that will support the private real estate development of office towers, residential buildings, hotels, and more. SEPTA plans to place an underground concourse linking its subways and trolleys to 30th Street Station. The Schuylkill Expressway ramp will be relocated to accommodate an intercity bus terminal. Over the next decade, the 30th Station Street District Plan includes upgrades to the station’s interior and retail sectors, in addition to a new passenger concourse.
